Tuan Le

Tuan Le is a professional poker player who resides in Los Angeles, California. Le is the all-time record holder for total amount won in all WPT events. Tuan became a famous poker player after winning $2.8 million at the 2004 WPT World Championship, which took place at the Bellagio. A few months later he capped off an incredible year by winning the World Poker Finals, this time for a modest $1,575,000!

I played with Tuan Le in the first round of the $500 No Limit Hold'em shoot-out at 2006 LA Poker Classic. I hadn't watched the WPT episodes where Tuan won, so didn't know who he was at the time. It took me completely by surprise when I found out that guy I beat heads up, was Tuan Le, the top WPT money winner. I definitely had the best of the cards in the encounter, memorably Ace Jack versus Tuan's King Jack, on an Jack high board, which all but sealed the win. Though, poker is a funny game, one fish's fish is a top pro to another top pro.

One of my favourite hands occurred when we were playing 3-handed with a tight guy. I raised with AQ on the button, Tuan Le called from the big blind. Flop produced 782, checked, continuation bet, Tuan called. Turn was another 8, check, I was fairly sure he was on a draw because on that day he tended to splash chips when he was strong, I bet again. He check-raised all-in, and I knew his hand, Jack Ten before the cards were turned over. That was a great feeling, unfortunately the satisfaction evaporated when a 10 hit the river and he dragged the pot. He had a slight chip lead at the start of the heads up match. The combination of a fast tournament structure, which emphasised sound aggressive pre-flop play and my ultra high confidence, lead to victory and passageway to the 2nd round of the shoot-out.
