John Gale

John Gale is a retired businessman who became a big time poker player after bullying his way to victory in the 2005 WPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Gale scooped over $800,000 for his WPT victory. John Gale's tournament record is outstanding, with numerous WSOP cashes to his name, including a bracelet win in the 2006 Pot Limit Hold'em event with $2,500 buy-in. On that occasion he earned $375,000 plus the coveted WSOP bracelet. The year before, Gale finished 2nd behind Brian Wilson in the $5,000 Pot Limit Hold'em tournament. Wilson sucked out so many times it was infuriating as a spectator, yet John Gale showed his admirable qualities and graciously remained a great sport.

John Gale was sponsored by PokerStars until 2006, incredibly they stopped sponsoring him after he won the WSOP Pot Limit Hold'em event.
I've played with John Gale twice before. First, at the 2005 WPT Paris. Gale came to the table short stacked and built up a nice stack only to blow it away after a few hours. He was very aggressive pre-flop, raising from all positions regularly. The second time was during a satellite at the 2005 EPT Barcelona. He berated a young Scandinavian player after losing most of his chips. The Scandi raised pre-flop with 35 off suit and flopped a straight versus Gale's pocket 8's, all the chips went in on the 6-high flop. Maybe the nice guy image is just an image?
